Studying Abroad As a Student!

2011
11.05

As a student, I have heard about a lot of other people who go and study abroad each year. They get to experience another country and culture, and they even end up getting some class credits out of it. I always thought that this would be a great experience, but at the same time, I just never thought that it was something that I would be able to afford. But one day when a friend of mine told me about this Barcelona Study Abroad program that was going on right now, I knew that this was something that I was at least going to want to look into. I had always wanted to go to Spain and was in the process of learning some Spanish too. So I went online to find out more about this Barcelona Study Abroad program, and now I have actually signed up for it and can’t wait!

The Two Rascals

The fact that a very large part of the world has come to learn spanish is mainly due to the existence and efforts of two spanish adventurers or villains depending on which side of the story you are on. They are great explorers if you are from spain and terrible invaders if you were a native inhabitant of a place that fell victim to their marauding conquistadors. The names of these men are none other than marco polo and christopher columbus. Their insatiable appetite for adventure and conquering can to a large extent account for the rapid and extensive spread of the spanish language and culture. A legacy that they have left to this day through the fact that many inhabitants of latin america speak spanish. So I guess their legacy is not all bad and there are some positives to their marauding mercilessly through the south american continent. So cheers to them and their adventures.

I am on the Tell Me More French program now. It is a neat little program through which I am learning French. It has proven to be pretty effective for me. I think that it is the fastest program that has taught me a language, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. It is important for me to enjoy something I am doing. Sure, there are many programs out there for me to use, but the most effective one is always going to be the one that is most effective for me. I think that it makes all the difference to me when I am learning. I guess learning languages is just a hobby of mine. I am sure that I will find it all to be really useful one day. I have used my skills at work, and the boss has been pretty impressed. I think I am up for a promotion too!

Where to Begin?

Going back to college to finish at the age of 30 has been a challenge, to say the least. I ended up dropping out in my junior year back when I was 22, and that was a mistake, in retrospect. Well, love is blind and stupid, because I did it to leave state with this guy that I thought was the love of my life. Since I’m back home in Nevada, you can imagine how that turned out! It’s all for the best, though, since I’m going to finish my bachelors and finally go to grad school which I should have done in the first place. I really need to figure out how to find the best Las Vegas tutor, though. I was out of school for so long that I’m having a hard time getting back up to speed with calculus, and I need that as one of my required classes. I’m sure with the right help, I can get back into the swing of it and get a decent grade.
